Urban Campus Renovation

A Contextually-Sensitive Campus Design

Here is a design for the renovation and restoration of a building for the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

The first floor is all new and features open and luminous spaces. New technology is incorporated in every floor, and the signage respects the university's design standards.

At the same time, the design celebrates the historic fabric of the street by replicating the look of the original period in some of the details. It restores the windows to the original style and reinterprets the entry facade with a new entry canopy that fits within the style of the windows, of the building and of the street.

Instead of remaining self-contained, the building becomes an integral part of the urban fabric.
